Delta Community Action Team Wellness Fair
In commemoration of International Overdose Awareness & Recovery Days
The Delta Community Action Team was thrilled to partner with Ladner United Church to host a wellness fair in observance of International Overdose Awareness and Recovery Days. The event featured several impactful elements: the Growing Out of Stigma audio/visual art experience, a memorial space honoring the 166+ lives lost in Delta due to the Toxic Drug Supply Crisis, and a market showcasing a wide array of health supports and resources available in Delta.
We were privileged to have Elder Ruth Adams open the event with a traditional and educational ceremony, emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural traditions and advancing reconciliation and decolonization. Honorable George Harie also joined us, offering supportive words and committing to enhance security at our ports to combat international drug trafficking.
The most poignant moments came from personal stories shared by Phil Kristofic and Andrew Lawrence. Their experiences highlighted the urgent need for collective action to build a healthier and safer community. It was amazing to see community come together to combat stigma and prioritize mental health and wellness.
